Miracle Fish from Sew Preeti Quilts

Welcome to my stop on the Sunlit Garden Blog Hop.

I was thrilled when Jennifer Thomas of Curlicue Creations asked whether I would like to join the Sunlit Garden BlogHop.  Of course, I said YES!

Here is my quilt, named Miracle Fish!

Miracle Fish, 60" by 60"

The red and green together is evocative of Christmas, but this collection has vibes of Spring with floral reds and leafy greens. Christmas made me think of Christ and Christ made me think of Fish.

Midweek: my day at the hop! from With Strings Attached

I'm delighted to be among the participants in this week's Dust Off a Quilt Book Blog Hop sponsored by Bea (BeaQuilter).

I have MANY quilt books.   In the 1990's when I began quilting seriously I was purposely very frugal and checked out quilting books from the library.  If I paid full price for a book (quilting or otherwise) I thought about it long and hard.  But, as a librarian, I could also buy books at the library discount (40%) and I did!

Now the bookselling market is all over the place. I've shopped publishers' warehouse sales ...

Weekly update: an event-filled weekend, stash report, and OMG for March from With Strings Attached

The Lake County Women's Coalition held the annual Women's History Month luncheon on Saturday.  Each year the member organizations are invited to nominate a woman who exemplifies the national WHM theme.  We recognize the winners of the scholarships we award through the College of Lake County.  (I'm LCWC secretary and the rep for the Zion Woman's Club.  AAUW-Waukegan is also part of LCWC.)

ZWC's honoree Jeanne' is the media specialist for Beach Park Dist. 6.  (Her mom is my quilting friend Irene, and Irene and her other daughter joined us.) Jeanne' does a whole lot ...

Crystal Pendants from Sew Preeti Quilts

Island Batik's February Challenge and BlogHop requires the ambassadors to use their assigned Fall 2024 collection (I got Radiant Burst) and the Studio 180 Design Tool (I got Wing Clipper) to make a Table Runner or a Bed Runner.

Sounds simple? Yes. But wait there is more.

1. We must make at least 12 units.

2. Use as many fabrics (from the 20 in the collection) as possible.

NOW, we have a challenge :-)

Well, here is my response.

Glowing Front

And I used leftover blocks from Mirabelle to make the backing, so it is two-sided.

Island Batik Dresden Challenge and Bloghop from Sew Preeti Quilts

Island Batik November Challenge requires us to make a Dresden Quilt using our assigned Summer 2024 collection.

Here is my response. I have named it "Like It Or Not" (LION). LION finished at 45" by 46".

Vintage Fans, 45" by 46"

I received Peach Blossom,  an original collection by Claudia Pfeil.

Fabrics

There are so many options for Dresden Plate designs. I could use a skinny Dresden Ruler (12 degrees) to make 30 blades per circle or a double Dresden (36 degrees) to make 10 wide blades per circle. I chose the 18 degree ruler.

I wanted to make a ...

My Wicked Quilt: Bona Lisa from High Road Quilter

I am participating in the Something Wicked blog hop and now it's time for my blog hop day.

I've been seeing a lot of beautiful Halloween patterns lately, and since Joan and Carol have been so accommodating and kind in hosting this blog hop, I decided to use one of their patterns. They both have provided so many Halloween patterns that it is difficult to choose, but a lot of them are on another hard drive, so it was pretty easy to choose.

I chose the center panel of the block of the month, Bona Lisa. The pattern ...

Hey Friends from Terificreations's Weblog

Cooler temps are beginning to drift down like autumn leaves in New York, at first one at a time here and there and then whoosh! before you can blink the trees are nekked for their winter rest. Well, almost, this is Texas and seasons are not the same here. A few things for you today… Continue reading Hey Friends

Here is my response.

Finished!

For this challenge we were to use our assigned Spring 2024 Bundles along with the matching threads provided by Aurifil.

I received Geometric Symphony designed by Jerry Khiev. This collection has beige, fuchsia and navy fabrics in bold geometric prints.

A Podcast, A Class and an Update from Terificreations's Weblog

Tracy Mooney and I have longed to work together again since our Generation Q(uilt) Magazine ended. And we have, as I’ve designed quilts for publications she’s edited. About a year ago we started talking seriously about having our own podcast and inviting friends to join us. And so, here we go. Click HERE. There are… Continue reading A Podcast, A Class and an Update

Elephant Parade Resumes from High Road Quilter

Last year, or at least it feels like it, in 2015, I made some Elephant Parade blocks. Then other quilts pushed to the front of the line. So when Joan and Carol announced that the theme for the August blog hop was It's a Jungle, I was eager to join so that I can make more progress on my Elephant Parade quilt. Hopefully if you squint and bend the rules,  you might be able to fit it into a jungle theme.

It is a fun quilt and I really would like to turn this into a finished quilt.

Welcome ...

Something Smells Fishy Blog Hop from High Road Quilter

Since my YouTube channel is called Quilt and Color, I decided to work on better branding and use the same name for my blog. Changing the name on the banner would work, but it would be better if the name of the blog is called Quilt and Color,

I am going to start posting on that channel from now on. This means that my blog hop post will be posted on that channel tomorrow. I hope you will join me over there tomorrow.

Our next blog hop is hosted by Carol Swift from Just Let Me Quilt.

Beach Picnic from High Road Quilter

I was in the mood for a nice summer quilt and when I was looking at inspiration for my bird quilt, I saw a quilt that had a little bird near water, so I decided to make a beach scene.

I pieced the background, added a strip for the waves. Then I added the birds and the picnic.

I used my usual method of sandwiching first and then securing the applique with quilting stitches.

I quilted some waves in the water.

As per my usual M.O. , I finished this quilt late at night so these photos are taken with ...

Quilt Reveal: Transportation Postcard from High Road Quilter

When Carol announced that the theme for this month's blog hop is transportation, I was really excited because I have a trip around the world quilt that is waiting for applique. My plan is to add a train, a plane, a car, a covered wagon, and other applique around the border of the quilt. But I had to decide which direction all these motifs should go.

This picture does no show the wide border.

Should I add them all up in the same direction so that it would look good in a wall hanging?

Or maybe I should have ...

April Showers Blog Hop from High Road Quilter

I made a quilt for the April Showers blog hop. A list of all of the participants are in my last blog hop. Be sure to look at them after you are done admiring my quilt.

After making a few bigger quilts, I am back yet again making a smaller quilt. It is a fun applique pattern that adds to my collection of elephant quilts. Doesn't everyone have one?

I ran out of time making this quilt so I didn't finish it, but it wasn't from lack of effort. I even made it during my lunch and ...
